The
following images of the specimen above zoom in on the vascular bundles
shown in cross-section. The first three images were taken with a Canon
PowerShot SD770 IS Digital ELPH 10.0 MEGA PIXELS, cropped and resized
in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. The images were taken in sunlight
outside.

The next four images were taken with a Dino-Lite AD7013 MT 5.0 MP. Images were resized in Adobe Photoshop CS6. The red vascular bundle has a
bundle cap that is 1,200 micrometers in width. The first three images zoom in at 80x, 115x, and 150x.

A
closer look at the owl-shaped vascular bundle on the left. This vascular
bundle measures 1,400 micrometers tall and a little under 900 micrometers
at its widest point. The vessels ("eyes") measure a little
over 200 micrometers in diameter. The white specks appear to be within
many of the parenchyma cells making up the ground tissue surrounding
the vascular bundles. Under the stereo microscope one has a real
sense of depth as many cells below the polished surface are clearly
visible, something that is lost in the images. This image was taken at 200x
